Top 10 Horror Classics

Top 10 Horror Classics

October is the perfect time to re-live all the old horror classics. There will certainly be a lot of them on TV.

Horror Classics

The Houston Press makes it easy to take a quick look at each in their Top 10 Horror Classics. Click on their link for previews of each of these horror classics.

Their top 10, with my notes

10. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

This is not as bloody as you might expect. Sometimes bad things happen to good people, and sometimes those bad things involve cannibalism and chainsaws.

9. Frankenstein

Just a classic, if for no other reason than it was one of the first.

8. The Blair Witch Project

The low budget ($35,000) movie that set the course for many young film makers to follow.

7. Alien

An alien popping out of someone’s belly just can’t be beat.

6. Audition

Audition comes from Japan, and is the simple story of a widowed man looking for love under false pretenses

5. Jaws

Jump-out-of-your-seat scary in spots. the silhouetted nude girl running into the water is what I remember most though.

4. A Nightmare on Elm Street

How many of these were there? Who knows…but definitely Halloween classics.

3. Psycho

I barely remember this from being a kid with my folks at a drive-in movie. I may have to go back to the “shower scene “again.

2. The Exorcist

It’s even creepier when you combine horror with priests.

1. The Shining

Nothing is scarier than involving the whole family.
