Bicycle Tour of the Heights
Bicycle Tour of the Heights
AIA (the local chapter of the American Institute of Architecture) offers several different walking tours each year. They have walking tours of Montrose, Buffalo Bayou Walking Tour, one in the Museum District and a couple of others.
The one they have just added though is in the Heights. And, because the Heights is spread out more than their usual tours, it is a Biking Tour of the Heights.
This biking tour will start from the Heights Library, at 1302 Heights Blvd, 10 am on Feb 8, 2014. Cost is $10. A discount is available if you are a member of ArCh or AIA. See details and register online here: Heights Bike Tour
It will explore the original part of the Heights, which was originally incorporated as its own city…later annexed by Houston. They will look at some old commercial buildings, historical structures (Of the 215 Houston National Register of Historic Places, the Heights has 120 properties), and some contemporary homes, showing how they fit with the community.
Reservations are required because group size is limited. Bring your own bike, obviously, or rent one from Houston B-Cycle or West End Bicycles. They encourage everyone to wear the silly helmets.
One last note: The tour meets at the Heights library, but park on the street, don’t fill up their parking lot.
A self-description of AIA Houston: AIA Houston is the local chapter of the American Institute of Architects. AIA Houston is a community of architects coming together to accomplish things in our practices and in our communities that no single architect can do alone.
