Gallery M Squared
Gallery M Squared
Gallery M Squared is one of my favorite galleries. They are in the old, iconic Heights Theater on 19th St. This is huge space with black walls and ceiling. The focus is entirely on the art; generally dramatic art. Art even hangs from the ceiling.
My only complaint is that you can’t tell from the outside what is going inside. They are in the old Heights Theater… a theater mind you..with a big marquee! They should make better use of that sign space. Announce to the world what you are, what’s showing, or at least that you are open. I guess the artist world is different from normal businesses.
The giant, ancient projector just inside the door makes the visit worthwhile just by itself.
In case you are intimidated by the blank entrance, just open the door and go in. The huge projector appears to project art onto a wall, surrounded by black walls and black ceiling; an intense entry, followed by intense art.
Gallery M Squared is Max and Michael. They’ve been on 19th St for ~8 years, the last 2 years in the old Heights Theatre.
Being in a 1929 theatre in historic Heights, the gallery is more than just a gallery. It is a community gathering space and can be rented for public or private events. Just keeping that old building alive and well is wonderful. It is the icon of the Heights.
Now showing (09/11-10/19), William Carey Jones “Pulp Blend” . Dramatic, colorful, Picasso-esque. You must visit.
